Privacy Policy

SU Connect Ghana ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Scripture Union Ghana. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) of the Republic of Ghana, and other applicable laws including the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772) and the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775).
1. Data Controller
Scripture Union Ghana is the data controller registered (or registrable) with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana under Act 843. You may contact our Data Protection Officer at privacy@suconnectghana.org.
2. Personal Data We Collect
We collect data you provide directly (name, date of birth, gender, contact details, school, year joined SU, region, occupation, profile image, payment references for donations) and data generated through use of the platform (login records, device information, audit logs).
3. Lawful Basis for Processing (Section 20, Act 843)
We process your data on the basis of (a) your consent given at registration, (b) the performance of a contract for membership services, (c) compliance with a legal obligation, and (d) the legitimate interests of Scripture Union Ghana in administering its ministry, alumni relations, and charitable activities.
4. Purposes
Membership administration, alumni engagement, event coordination, communications, mentorship matching, fundraising and donation processing (including via Paystack and Mobile Money), safeguarding, statistical reporting, and compliance with Ghanaian law.
5. Disclosure & Sharing
We share data only with authorised SU officers, vetted service providers (e.g. payment processors, email and SMS gateways) bound by confidentiality, and where required by Ghanaian law, court order, or lawful request from a public authority.
6. Cross-Border Transfers
Where data is transferred outside Ghana (e.g. to cloud hosting providers), we ensure an adequate level of protection consistent with Section 47 of Act 843.
7. Retention
We retain personal data for as long as your membership is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to maintain alumni records, satisfy legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes, in line with Section 24 of Act 843.
8. Security
We apply technical and organisational measures including role-based access control, encryption in transit, audit logging, and periodic security reviews, in compliance with Sections 28–30 of Act 843.
9. Your Rights
Under Act 843 you have the right to access your data, request correction or deletion, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana (dataprotection.org.gh).
10. Children
For members under 18, we obtain parental or guardian consent in line with the Children's Act, 1998 (Act 560).
11. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the platform or email.
12. Governing Law
This Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
